Designing for devices that lose connectivity
Field devices spend real time offline. Buffering on the device, idempotent ingestion and clock-skew handling are not edge cases in IoT — they are the normal operating condition, and systems that treat them as exceptions lose data quietly.
Provisioning and over-the-air updates
Every device needs a unique identity it did not ship with, and a way to receive firmware safely. We build staged rollouts with automatic rollback, because a bad update pushed to a whole fleet at once is the most expensive failure mode in this work.
Making a fleet legible
Operator dashboards answer three questions: what is offline, what is behaving abnormally, and what changed recently. Everything beyond that is reporting, and reporting belongs in a different screen from operations.

- The architectures we build handle fleets in the tens of thousands on managed infrastructure; the binding constraint is usually telemetry frequency rather than device count, so we size ingestion against your actual reporting interval.
- What happens when a device is offline for days?
- Devices buffer locally and replay on reconnection, and the ingestion pipeline is idempotent so replayed messages do not create duplicate records.
